Agency receives grant for playground needs at US West

St. Peters, August 24, 2011:  United Services announced today that it has been awarded a grant of $6,500 from the Employee Community Fund of Boeing St. Louis which will be used to renovate and expand the playground at United Services’ facility in Dardenne Prairie (US West).  The playground is used by preschool students of ALL abilities.  United Services’ programs are INCLUSIVE which allows children with special needs to play and learn alongside their typically developing peers.

Leslie Tucker, Site Director at United Services-West remarked “ECF of Boeing St. Louis has been a strong supporter of our programs for many years.  Their contributions have enabled the agency to meet many of the programmatic and equipment needs that otherwise would not have been funded in our budget.”

United Services is celebrating its 36^th year of providing early childhood education to students in St. Charles County.  The agency began offering therapy services in 1975 to a handful of children and built its first site in St. Peters in the late 1980s.  In the years that followed, contracts with area school districts to serve their students ages 3-5 with developmental delays increased the school’s population tremendously.  United Services expanded its services to include extended care and began an inclusive program in the 1990s.  With continued population growth in the county, the agency’s board decided to expand its facilities and built a second location in Dardenne Prairie which opened in August, 2004 to more efficiently meet the needs of families living in the western part of St. Charles County.

In August, 2010, United Services once again expanded its services to include preschool students in Warren County.  The agency will serve 30+ preschoolers in its location at 395 Veterans Memorial Parkway in Warrenton.
